Occupational Therapy
Sensory integration is how our brains processes our 8 senses and how we respond to it. Children with sensory disorders may experience a heightened set of senses while others may experience a depressed/insensitive set.
If a child is having trouble using one or more senses, sensory integration therapy can help the child make sense of the world.
avoiding physical contact (hugs, handshakes, etc)?
frequently covering eyes and ears?
picky with what their food tastes or feels like?
scrunching their nose with slight odors and smells?
appearing to be clumsy on several occasions?
constantly feeling the need to touch objects or put them in their mouth?
Toucan Talk provides play-based sensory integration therapy sessions. We help your child learn to use all of their senses together so that the world doesn’t seem quite so overwhelming. We assist in:
addressing your child’s individual disorder/s through active play
increasing your child’s threshold for high sensory environments
providing activities that calm your child in cases of sensory stress
